The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Orange County residents regarding the residency of 37-year-old Geoffrey Peters, who has moved from Ann Street to Grand Street in Newburgh.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Peters as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent sex offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Peters had "immediately and physically overpowered" and threatened his three victims. He had sexual contact with a 7, 9 and 10-year-old girl in September 1999 and was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in March 2000. Peters was sentenced to a term of between one day and four years in jail and is now under the jurisdiction of the Newburgh City Police Department.
